Wei Chen is Synthetica's chief financial officer, which at Synthetica is less a job than a form of witness. She quotes the runway in months, flatly and accurately, to a room that has already moved on to renaming the company. She is right every single time, and it has never once mattered.

Wei's register is factual despair. Where Chad sees a rocket ship, Wei sees an invoice. The strip's most reliable joke is the distance between those two views, measured in dollars.
